The United Methodist church is in a period of discernment about our future. Local congregations like ours are clear about our mission in the community and in the context where we work. We embrace our shared ministry with all who love God. We rejoice at God’s presence with us. However the global denomination has a more complicated mission field and less unity of vision. The bishops of Western Jurisdiction continue to work to find a way to lead the church toward inclusion of all. Read their response to the Judicial Council’s rulings this week on new regulations and what is in store for upcoming Annual Conferences and General Conference 2020 here.

Stewardship Moment from Steve Briggs: When I used to think of Stewardship, the first thing I thought about was “oh here we go again, the church is asking for money." That changed when I was on the finance committee at a previous church and I saw how much money it takes for a church to operate. I was floored. Now my career is not in finance but hearing all the fancy terms and understanding them and seeing the number blew my mind. Now many of us see the weekly things that the money pays for, the building, the pastor, the associate pastor, but we are unaware of the “other things." I urge you to ask someone on Finance, Stewardship, or your pastors about these “other things." So, with this theme, “Who We Are," in my eyes we are Aldersgate United Methodist Church that is doing awesome and wonderful things in our community and beyond! We can do so much, so many things to help so many people in our church, in our community and in our world. There is a verse that sticks with me when it comes to Stewardship. Malachi 3:10 Test me in this and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams.
Please join Melinda Rose Lilley at this year's luncheon. She still has seats available at the Aldersgate table. Help end the cycle of homelessness.
Mini-Stewardship Campaign Coming! The first Sunday of Easter we begin our mini-Stewardship Campaign for the six-month budget of July 1 - December 31, 2019. Our theme is "Who We Are." We will be highlighting our staff and the amazing ministry work they do. The Stewardship Moments will be shared by several Aldersgate members and why they give of their time, talent and tithe to support the mission of faith, love, health & service in our community. Thank you for your grace and support during this Stewardship Campaign.
As we move through Holy Week, we are walking the road with Jesus through his last days and hours. We are readying ourselves to hear his words to us. He'll ask us how much we love him. He'll tell us that we will deny him. He'll challenge us to love one another. Let us hear his words for us this year. Join us for worship on Thursday and Friday evening at 7pm. Greet the sunrise on Easter morning with us at Wilburton Park at 6:00 am. Celebrate the resurrection with us on Sunday morning at 9:00 am or 11:00 am at church at 14230 SE Newport Way.
How are you standing up for justice as a result of your faith? It's Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter. Today is Table Turning Tuesday, the day of Holy Week when we remember Jesus turning the tables in the Temple in Jerusalem. Read this article by John Helmiere, whose faith community Valley and Mountain began the Table Turning movement in the Pacific Northwest and share your stories of faithful action for justice.
April 14 brings Palm Sunday worship and our sixth and final sermon in the Pots of Clay series. Pastor Brad will preach about the alternate story that Jesus' entry into Jerusalem represented for his followers that allowed them to imagine a future different from their past. As we continue to recognize what the Holy Week stories mean for us, let us continue to imagine the future that God is calling forth. We will begin with a palm procession into the worship space at 9am and 11am. Worship will include a Mission Moment and will end more solemnly as we move into the rest of the story throughout this week.
This past Sunday, April 7th, our church voted with over 90% approval to officially become a reconciling congregation!!!

This Sunday we will gather for one combined worship service at 10:00am. During worship, we will make the decision about whether Aldersgate UMC will join the Reconciling Ministries Network. All members and active participants are welcome to vote. All are welcome to join us in worship and witness the decision making process. This week is the fifth in our sermon series, Pots of Clay, highlighting the ways that God is shaping and forming us, even now. Rev. Terri Jane Stewart will preach. They will help us understand how restorative justice practices help recognize the ways that all of God's children bear the image of God. We will celebrate communion together after the results of the vote have been announced.
